Although Japanese law was changed in March, 2015 and it has allowed non-resident person to set up KK or GK and become solely representative director of the company, at least one resident representative director” is still required to incorporate KK or GK for the following two reasons.

1. Resident Representative’s Japanese bank account is required to receive the initial capital from foreign investors for KK or GK registration.

2. Japanese banks require resident representative director’s presence to open the corporate bank account.
